Chapter Youth Program
MISSION STATEMENT
To introduce the next generation of leaders, stewards, and enthusiasts to the mountains, forests, and waters of the Appalachian region. To instill , in our youth, a love of the outdoors that will be passed from one generation to the next. To teach the intrinsic worth of nature, for recreation and spiritual renewal, as well as our ecological and economic health.
Not all children have the means or the ability to get into the outdoors on their own. The Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) believes that all children should have the opportunity to get outdoors and develop strong connections to nature as a foundation in their personal growth and development.
The New York-North Jersey Chapter’s Chapter Youth Program matches youth agencies with local qualified AMC volunteers who can share their expertise and facilitate positive outdoor experiences for children. We work with children between the ages of 6-18 in support of the AMC’s mission of recreation, education and conservation of the natural world. Volunteer CYP Leaders can assist youth groups with opportunities for hiking, nature walks, conservation, navigation, Leave No Trace Practices and many other outdoor activities and skills.
