Chapter Youth Program Re-Launches

The New York-North Jersey Chapter is gearing up to re-launch its chapter youth program, AMC Outings for Urban Kids (AOK), which will link urban youth groups with AMC leaders interested in sharing the wonder and adventure of the outdoors. The program will be targeted to children and teens who may not have had any previous opportunities to explore the natural environment.

If you are interested in becoming a youth activity leader, please contact Richard Barcia at 212-303-8889 (w), (212) 832-0232 (h) or for further information. Please note that all leaders must undergo a background check as well as training, which will be provided by the AMC.

We are also presently looking for at least two chapter youth program coordinators to help supervise the program and serve as liaisons to participating agencies.

We hope that you will consider becoming part of this exciting and rewarding endeavor.

Sat., Mar. 29. Early Spring Trail Maintenance, Siwanoy Trail Pelham Bay Park, Bronx.
This public accessible hiking trail in Pelham Bay Park needs it's winter blow-down cleared, brush trimmed back, and blazes renewed. Meet 9:30 a.m. parking lot of the Bartoe Pell Mansion off Shore Rd. Public transit # 6 subway to the Pelham Bay Park station then the # 45 bus (which accepts Metro Card) one stop to the Bartoe Pell. Bring your lunch, water, and work gloves. The AMC supplies all tools. No experience neccessary. For further information contact L Ken West after 8 p.m. 212-750-8870.

Sat., Apr. 19. Trail Maintance Siwanoy Trail.
Our spring trail work will be in marshy areas or other needs of the spring. Meet 9:30 a.m. parking lot of the Bartoe Pell Mansion off Shore Rd. in Pelham Bay Park. Public transit # 6 subway to the Pelham Bay Park station then the # 45 bus (which accepts the metro card) one stop to the Pell Mansion. Bring your lunch, water, and work gloves.
