The following suggestions are for paddlers who wish to be NOT WELCOME on AMC NY-NoJ Chapter canoe and kayak trips.
- Register late by phone or ask the leader to make special arrangements, then don't show up.
- Cancel your registration a couple of days before a trip, and expect your deposit back.
- Don't include an SASE, or your phone number in your trip registration.
- Bring along your pet or un-registered guests.
- Usually arrive late at the meeting place.
- Let others unload the boats, carry them to the river and load them after the trip.
- Forget to get a life jacket or paddle until the trailer has left.
- Always be the last to be ready to paddle, or to leave camp.
- Expect your partner to get you out of trouble while you enjoy the ride.
- Expect to be paid for bringing unrequested food items.
- While driving the shuttle, lag behind the car in front of you.
- Complain often to the trip leader(s) about: your partner, others on the trip, paddle list, food and cooking, camp facilities, quality of put-in or take-out, river esthetics, or weather.
- Don't volunteer for a camping chore or disappear when it's time to do your chore.
- Leave your paddle and PFD on the river bank until all the canoes are loaded on the trailer.
- Expect the leader(s) to supply the things that you forgot, like: tent, sleeping bag, clothing, rainwear, gloves, hat or lunch.
